What We Do

Out of School Program

Through a daily, two-hour after-school program and a six-week daily four-hour summer program, students have been provided with opportunities to participate in remediation, tutoring, ESL, research-based math, reading and social studies curricula, arts, nutrition, fitness, risk prevention, and life skills workshops, as well as social enrichment and community service programming.  More than 100 children of immigrant families benefit from this project.

Older Youth Program (14-24)

This program focuses on youth aged between 14 and 24. The program created job clubs for the youth and it also provided you with different opportunities that make them ready for the real world including:

  • Computer training
  • ESOL training
  • Job placement
  • Workshop on life skill

Job training

As part of its employment generation program, ECSDC has provided various trainings in collaboration with Washington Training Institute for immigrant families through sponsorship or subsidized programs. The trainings include: Home health Aid, Pharmacy Technician, Dental Assistant, Computer Literacy and Secretarial Services.

ESOL and GED Programs

Many immigrants face a problem of integration due to language barrier. It is hardly possible for an African immigrant to find temporary and/or career-oriented jobs and function satisfactorily at work places without Basic English language skills. Even if they are able to get jobs, they are unable to retain their jobs or establish appropriate working relationships with co-workers and those in charge.  In order to address this problem, ECSDC conducts ESOL (English for Speakers of Other languages) and GED (General Educational Development) programs in a convenient environment, by focusing on academic success and bringing about substantial change in the students’ performance as confidence.
